Inmate Being Transported To Oshkosh Kills Himself

SOURCE

OSHKOSH - Washington County deputies say the jail inmate who killed himself while being transported to a mental hospital was a 30-year-old man from the Town of Erin. The sheriff's department says the man was taken into custody about 2:00 Thursday morning. After consulting with the county, two deputies began to transport him to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.

While in transit, the man was able to slit his own neck. The deputies detoured to the nearby Winnebago County sheriff's office for emergency assistance, but the man died.

Both deputies have been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation.

The man's name hasn't been released.

Prison lockdown search called off
A lockdown at a West Midlands prison is now over.

Specially-trained staff and dogs had been carrying out a search at the category C prison at Featherstone, in Staffordshire.

The prison, near Wolverhampton, went into full lockdown after information was received that a handgun had been smuggled inside.

A team of sniffer dogs and investigating officers found no evidence of firearms.

HMP Featherstone houses inmates who are serving sentences ranging from three years to life.
