New "Chaplain McDorman Reflection "

Marriage – Dealing with Divorce situations and how to save your Marriage

By Chaplain Gary McDorman

In scripture when the Lord says "be ye therefore sober," that obviously means to think. Don't let anything cloud your mind, hindering your ability to think straight. We cannot give in to our feelings, or to sentiment, or to public opinion, or even to the particular needs of our closest friends or family. Thinking properly would be thinking according to Scripture.  Then, we are to pray. We must seek the Lord's wisdom about this matter. Then, of course, love.  It is a serious mistake to develop any kind of a scriptural opinion which causes us to hate or snub people, to look down upon them, or fail to love them.  This would be an improper use of the Word of God. In these days, as we look for the return of Christ, that will be an increasingly serious problem.  In Matthew 24:12, as the Lord described these days, He said, "Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."  Therefore, in these days, we have to think and pray much about loving others in the Lord... Jewish Reflection Of The Month - Article

Next Year in Jerusalem, Conclusion

by Ellen Willis

There began to be moments -- usually early in the morning, before I forced myself to get up and face the day -- when I was more inclined than not to believe that it was all true, that I was only resisting because I couldn't stand the pain of admitting how wrong I was. What about the prophecies ... and the way modern history seemed almost a conspiracy to drive the Jews back to Israel ... and the Bible... Mike and I had been going over Genesis, along with the Rashi commentary, and I had had a sudden vision, like an acid flash, of a Garden, and a Presence ... and my personality, my Sagittarian compulsion to aim straight at the cosmic bull's-eye... "The blessing and curse of being a Jew," said Reb Noach, "is that Jews are thirsty for God, for the absolute. A Jew can never have peace. Whatever he does he'll be the best at, whether it's being a radical or being a criminal. It's all misplaced searching for God. Every Jew is a neurotic..."....Read More

The Passionate Marriage

by Al Janssen

Song of Solomon

Why is Song of Solomon in the canon of Scripture? The story is more than 3,000 years old. It tells of how King Solomon discovered a beautiful woman and fell in love with her. There is no mention of God in its eight chapters. In fact, the open expression of sensuality makes some uncomfortable, wondering if such words should even be published in our holy book.

Jewish and Christian scholars generally agree that Song of Solomon is part of Scripture for two reasons. First, it upholds a picture of marital love as it was intended. Here is a glimpse of what God desired when He joined man and wife in the Garden of Eden and told them to "be fruitful and multiply." For centuries marriages have occurred for many reasons — for economic or political benefits, because the families got along, because the man needed an heir, because it was convenient and that’s what young people did. But marriage primarily for reasons of love has become commonplace only in the last couple of centuries, and not in all parts of the world..... Read More

A Commander's Prayer

Wisdom to lead

"Father you have called me to lead men in a world that is unforgiving and where I am the one that others will look to for answers when things go wrong. I will be the one that my men will look to in combat. I will be the one who will make the decision to send my men into harms way.
The responsibilities that I have been entrusted with, few can understand or even comprehend. I ask you for strength in my daily duties that are both seen and unseen.

Your word says that to whom much is given much will be required and that if we ask for wisdom you would give it abundantly and freely. As my men will draw to me may I draw closer to you. I ask you to fill me with abundance of wisdom and courage to lead daily. May I have the courage to be a righteous man and a man of integrity. Help me to lead with fairness, integrity and most of all with humility.

Help me to remember that I am not here for me, but for my men and my department. Bless me with the strength, wisdom and courage to lead my team into inmate combat situation with great victory as you blessed David and his men to great victories. Father I ask for favor both in inmate combat situations and with my administration as I prepare my team for battles that will be fought behind these walls.

I ask now that you would make me into the Commander that you have called by name."
