Inmate gets more jail time for sneaking back to prison

SHARPES, Fla. (AP) - A Brevard County man who violated his probation has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Sylvester Jiles, 25, appeared before Circuit Judge George Maxwell on Monday.

Jiles was a former Brevard County inmate who was injured last year while trying to sneak back into jail.

In September, Jiles was returned to the Brevard County Detention Center after being arrested and charged with violating his probation and trespassing on jail property. He was hospitalized with severe cuts from barbed wire while trying to climb a 12-foot fence at the jail Aug. 31.

He had been released days earlier after accepting a plea deal on a manslaughter charge which carried a sentence of eight years probation.  Jiles had begged jail officials to take him back into custody because he feared retaliation from family members of his victim. The officials said they couldn't take him in and told him to file a police report. After being told to file an incident report, Jiles tried to break back into the jail and was arrested
