Three Inmates Involved In Plot To Escape Wis. Prison
MILWAUKEE -- The State Department of Corrections has revealed that three inmates were involved in a plot to escape from the medium security prison in Stanley.
Jimmy Baldwin of Milwaukee was one of two inmates who successfully forged paperwork allowing them to be released from prison prematurely, police said.
Corrections officials said a third inmate also had forged documents, but wasn't able to make it out of the prison before the plot was uncovered.
The D.O.C believes there is a link between the three and they had help from the outside. The head of corrections apologized Tuesday.
"Don't get me wrong, this was a mistake. This was a huge mistake that these individuals were allowed out. Our job is to stop this from happening," said Rick Raemisch, Wisconsin's Corrections secretary. "We did not, and that's what I am apologizing for. We let people out of this prison that should not be that should not have been let out."
Baldwin, a convicted killer, walked out of Stanley Jan. 19, after serving 15 years of his 73 year sentence.
He spent a week living with his sister in Milwaukee before anyone realized he was gone. He is back in custody.
