Cascade County inmate accused of attempted escape, assault on jailers

GREAT FALLS - A 59-year-old Great Falls man is accused of assaulting two detention officers at the Cascade County jail during an attempted escape.

Authorities say Daryl Wayne Starr lured an officer into his cell area Monday by telling her another inmate was having a seizure. He is accused of attacking her and forcing her into an unoccupied cell before punching and kicking another officer.

Starr, who was forced back into the cell area, is charged with two felony counts of assault on a peace officer and one felony count of attempted escape. He was in custody after being arrested in Great Falls earlier this month for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and simple assault.
