Little info days after prison incident
Investigators and prison officials remained tight-lipped Sunday about a Friday altercation that killed an inmate at the Lincoln Correctional Center.
Jesse L. Perrigo, 39, who was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, died Saturday evening after being admitted to BryanLGH Medical Center West in critical condition.
Perrigo was convicted in Douglas County of fatally shooting a taxi driver during an attempted robbery in November 1991.
Dawn-Renee Smith, public information officer for the state Department of Correctional Services, did not say whether a weapon was used in Friday's incident or how many other people were involved.
Rescue workers were called to the prison just after 1 p.m., and transported only the one patient, Battalion Chief Dean Staberg said. Smith said she believed only Perrigo was injured.
Deb Collins, spokeswoman for the Nebraska State Patrol, said only that the State Patrol was investigating the incident, and that no other information was available.
